Welcome to issue 3 for the AvatarMeet 2014 Newsletter.  In this issue you will find information about the meet up hotel and camping. Apologies for the delay in getting this information through to everyone, we wanted to take the time and get all the key details right and negotiate a good deal for the hotel to make the event as affordable as possible.

Please help us out and update your profile on AvatarMeet.com so we have good numbers to continue planning the event details!

Camping

Carry on Camping: The camping trip for AvatarMeet 2014 will be from Sunday July 6th to Tuesday July 8th in Sequoia / Kings Canyon National Park. Sunday will be a flexible arrival day to accommodate different flight times and carpools. It is a 4-5 hour drive to the campground from Los Angeles International Airport so we advise people to carpool if possible.

We have reserved a group campsite at the Canyon View Campground. We will be at Group Campsite D. As an alternative, there is a lodge on site with rooms, and a store/restaurant.

Most likely the activities will include day hikes, night hikes, ecological/environmental learning activities, carpool trips to see the famous trees/caves/museums of the national park, and much more. Suggestions/Discussion is welcome!

AvatarMeet.com has been updated so that everyone can officially indicate if they will be going camping this year. Please update your profile so we can have an accurate count of the number of people attending. For more information including maps, check out the camping section of our website.

Cosplay

Feeling a little blue?: Cosplay during Lightstorm day is still up to be confirmed, and is still likely not the be the official cosplay day. However, lightstorm will most likely be the first full day back from the camping trip. This gives 2 full days left (maybe 3 depending on personal departure times) to wear the cosplay. If you are in PAX that would certainly mean more time in paint than actually painting. We would also like to do another costume contest this year, which would be placed on "official" cosplay day, so if anyone has an suggestions/improvements from the 2012 contest PM Sarah Noël on either ToS or LN.

Want to Explore LA?

Why not stay a while?: The discount for the hotel has been extended at least two days either side of the meet up, so if camping is not your thing, but you would still like to have a bit of Avatar time with friends and do the tourist thing in LA why not arrive a few days early. There is plenty to see and do. There is more info here: http://www.discoverlosangeles.com/

There are two bus services that call outside the hotel that head north toward Santa Monica and also south to the metro rail. Both offering cheap transit across the city, for only $1.50 per trip. You can find more information by following this link: http://www.metro.net/
